“It is an evil time when the world is dumb before injustice. When the oppressed, the poor, the deprived, cry aloud unto heaven, while the judges and lords of the earth keep silent…these people who feel pain and sorrow like you, to whom violence is done, who have joys and hopes like you; who feel honor and insult like you…your brothers and sisters! “Are you dumb?” O no, you are not dumb, your voice is heard, loud and clear on earth.” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-45)
Awareness and then action is the key to help to stop the trafficking of humans. The definition of human trafficking is the dislocation of someone by deception or coercion for exploitation, through forced prostitution, forced labor or other forms of slavery. There are different types of trafficking, but they’re all evil. Forced prostitution, forced slave labor, forced child soldiers, organ trafficking and the problem of poverty, economic exploitation, immigration, as a way of culture and tradition and pornography.
All those who are trafficked, are living in horrible conditions and being made to do things they don’t want to do. Unspeakable acts that we can’t even imagine. You ask, what can I do? You can learn more about it and know what to look for when you see it and then make sure to report it. You have to ask yourself questions like: was the homeless child who asked me for money, trafficked? when you travel, was someone being trafficked in the airport I was in? who are the people making my chocolate, coffee or clothes, trafficked victims? Trafficking doesn’t just happen in other countries, it happens in the US also, you may even know someone who was trafficked. The traffickers are very good at their job of deceiving and they know what to look for.
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” by Edmund Burke (1729-97)
